The UK has installed more offshore wind farms this year than anywhere else in the world
The UK has installed more offshore wind farms this year than anywhere else in the world, according to the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).
Of 108 turbines constructed around Europe’s coastline in the first six months of 2011, 101 belong to the UK. The turbines are a small percentage of the total numbers planned for the country.
According to chief executive of EWEA Christian Kjaer, windfarm projects are currently the largest construction undertakings in Europe, with 1,247 offshore turbines connected to the grid across nine countries as of 30 June this year.
